Leaving a Gift

Thank you for considering leaving Carers Centre a gift in your Will. You have taken the first steps to making a positive contribution towards helping us continue our work in your memory.

With your help we will be able to increase and develop the practical help and support we provide to carers. A gift to a charitable cause left by someone in their Will is known as a legacy. When writing a Will it is understandable that your first priority are your loved ones, however, many people decide to leave a legacy to a cause which is close to their heart. This gift is tax free and may save your loved ones the possibility of having to pay inheritance tax.

Leaving a Will makes sure that you remain in control of your affairs while giving your family peace of mind in avoiding any lengthy and expensive complications they may otherwise need to sort out. It is always advisable that you have your Will written by a solicitor, who will ensure it is correctly witnessed and valid. There are a number of different types of legacy and these should be discussed with the solicitor writing your will.

We have put together some advice and practical information for you on how to leave a gift in your will. If you would like us to send you this information pack please contact us.

You can find more information on leaving a gift in your will from HMRC. www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/giving/will.htm

Gifts in place of funeral flowers

You may decide to ask for donations to be made to Carers Centre in place of flowers at your funeral. If so you should inform your executors of your wishes. Your
solicitor will provide you with advice on the wording to put in your Will and Funeral Directors will usually sort this out for you.

If you already have a valid Will and decide you would like to add a bequest to Carers Centre you can do this by adding a Codicil. A Codicil form is available from Carers Centre or from your solicitor, or you can download one here. You can complete this form yourself or take it to your solicitor to complete on your behalf. Once signed and witnessed, keep it in a safe place with your Will.

Our pack of advice and practical information will help you through the process of leaving charitable gifts. If you would like us to send you this information pack or any of the forms discussed here by post please contact us.
